Meet the Founder

Adese Okojie Chartered Fellow CIPD

Adese established BWHR in June 2019 out of her own personal experiences as a Black woman navigating her career in the United Kingdom.

The BWHR tribe has developed from a networking platform to a strong force through supporting its community with education, empowerment and recruitment. BWHR has mentored about 100 Black women in Human Resources and empowered more than 20,000 Black professionals in HR through their monthly masterclass and knowledge sharing since January 2021.

In addition to leading our strategy, Adese is a senior HR leader, a Non Executive Board member and a strong advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion. Adese achieved an empowerment award nomination for her role in the career development of Black women in HR from Nations of Women in 2021 and most recently was celebrated as one of the top 50 women around the world by Powerhouse global magazine.

In her spare time, she volunteers at her local Church as a Sunday School Teacher, attends music concerts, researches something new, and travels the world to discover new cultures. She believes that a strong community with purpose will overcome barriers.

Her vision is to empower Black professionals in HR globally through her voice and platform to connect and win with intention!

I found the session interesting and think it is great that such things are being organized, I wish there was a forum like this available to me in my earlier career. The presenters were very open and honest and created a safe space to encourage sharing. I look forward to receiving info on future events.

Just when I was at the crossroad of my career, BWHR came along providing guidance through her mentorship program. The desire to have an experienced hand hold me is among many other reasons why I decided to be a part of this mentorship program. So far, The experience has been great.

I have had to face my fears, learn to ask the 'why ' question before I act, let go of backlogs from the past, visualize my future and in fact move them to my present. The relationship I have now come to share with my mentor from BWHR is nothing short of a family member bond.

My advice to those thinking of signing up, would be to, *waste no further time*. You can be sure that BWHR has room for you too!

Adese Okojie, BWHR founder has been a monumental force in giving me the guidance, advice and confidence to navigate the world of work as a black woman.

She encouraged me to be unafraid of raising my voice and gave me formidable tools to help articulate my needs and wants.

Her generosity of time and spirit know no bounds. She approaches everything with heart, conviction, wisdom and a  deep knowledge that comes from what is clearly a long and experienced career in HR.  She knows the system, and knows exactly how to encourage women to work it to their advantage rather than feeling the odds are stacked against them.

I believe that every woman - whether she is in a period of peace or trouble, of constance or transition - has the advice of someone like Adese in their toolkit.

I was drawn to black women in HR because of the passion and focus the brand had for developing professional black women. After a few conversations, we were finally able to lock in a date to have a honest conversation about 'How Black women can amplify their voices'.

The conversation was amazing! It was energetic, engaging and really sparked some food for thought. Since then, it has been great working with the founder of BWHR, and as the discussions around growth and collaboration continue I am excited to see what the future holds.
